Our story began in a rather unconventional way: with a pink, long-lashed Muppet instead of a profile picture. One of them said he worked in real estate; the other asked if he had any houses to rent because a friend was looking. The reply came with humor: “I don’t even know if you’re a person—to me you’re just a pink Muppet.”

 

So we decided to meet and see if we were both real. Between a Portuguese and a French class, in a café in the center of Lisbon—both with our books under our arms, speaking in English and trying to figure out who was who. What began as curiosity became persistence, surprise, and finally, choice.

 

What was never meant to last more than a month has now lasted eight years — and we still choose each other, every single day
